Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch. This time last year a certain buzz was building up around the debut novel by a new American fantasy author named Scott Lynch. I can say that it is not necessary to have read the first book to enjoy its successor -- though I suspect that would be the preferred course of action. I especially love the character of little Cosetta, what few glimpses we catch of her. Red Seas Under Red Skies is the second book in the Gentleman Bastard sequence by Scott Lynch (my review) and the Little Red Reviewer is hosting a read-long for us aspiring bastards. It didn't disappoint, I enjoyed this from start to finish and got through it very quickly. Usually the second book in a series doesn't turn out to be as great as the first, but in this case it was even better. The book gets right into the action and it never really stops! Red Seas Under Red Skies has the two main characters return, but with a new cast of enemies, allies, dupes and everyone in between. I was happy to try the sequel, Red Seas Under Red Skies. Rather bravely, in Red Seas Under Red Skies Lynch tries to do something different to what he did in the first book and consequently I have to applaud his effort.
